There are two options: a small and a large band. They help to fit both small and big wrists.

  • Battery and charging

Fitbit incorporated its proprietary charging design composed of magnetic pins like you would find on a Mac charger. The battery lasts about 5 days with normal usage.

  • Tracking

Fitbit has some of the most accurate results when it comes to sensing. It can tell when you’re running, walking, climbing stairs, swimming, or even just resting. It lets you track activity and sleep all day long.

When cycling, spinning or just stepping, you can strap it around your ankles for more accurate tracking. It is not perfect but is one of the best.

Garmin HRM-Swim

General Information and Specifications

  • Product dimensions:57×1.5×0.5 inches.
  • Product weight:2.56 ounces.
  • Battery: Replaceable Lithium-ion CR2032 battery, lasts up to 18 months.
  • Waterproofing: Completely waterproof.
  • Connectivity: Stores data while you’re in the water in internal memory, then syncs it with a Garmin watch or other compatible devices.
  • Tracking: Swimming, pulse, cycling, generally all physical activity.

Features Description

  • Design

The Garmin HRM-Swim is primarily a swimming pulse monitor. It features a special silicone-like non-slip strap to hold it to your skin. This is especially useful during push-offs where most other devices would get dislodged by the force.

The strap is extra wide and feels very comfortable to the skin. There is also an extensible strap if you wish to wear it around your chest. However, it becomes uncomfortable if you go cycling or running with it because the silicone is not breathable.

  • Pulse monitoring and connectivity

The Garmin Swim uses ANT+ technology to sync heart rate data with any ANT+ compatible device. That includes watches, phones, and computers. You can monitor HR data in real-time while swimming, but you can do it afterward.

However, you must have a Garmin watch to operate the strap. It has an internal clock that you need to get going before you get into the pool. Otherwise, it will not sync properly at the end of the session.

It can store up to 20 hours of heart rate data while you’re in the water. As soon as you’re out, just pair it with your ANT+ compatible device and it will forward for analysis.

  • Battery

Instead of charging, the Garmin Swim uses a Lithium-ion coin battery. Garmin promises that it will last about 10 months with an hour of use daily, and it is not unusual for it to last up to two years.

Replacing the battery is easy for the user. You only need a tiny screwdriver to do it.

  • Reviewing data

Once you have your data, it is easy to create detailed reports. Garmin Connect is an online community where you get to interact with others, save your data, plan, and compete. You can view detailed metrics like HR graphs, pace, stroke type, among others.

POSITIVES:

  • The slim profile creates minimal drag.
  • The battery lasts for many months before replacement is needed.
  • The wide non-slip strap is perfect for swimming.
  • ANT+ connectivity makes it compatible with many devices.
  • Completely waterproof.

NEGATIVES:

  • You need a compatible Garmin watch to operate it.
  • It doesn’t display real-time heart rate data.

Verdict: The Garmin HRM-Swim is a great heart rate monitor if you are a dedicated swimmer. It can withstand the harsh pool chemicals repeatedly. For some reason, though, the sensor is not detachable from the strap.

If you already have a Garmin watch, then getting the HRM-Swim is the next logical step.

Garmin HRM-Swim Heart Rate Monitor
  • SWIM HEART RATE1 - Stores up to 20 hours of heart rate data during swims, then forwards it to a compatible device at the end of the session. It also sends real-time heart rate and interval summaries to the watch.
  • NON-SLIP DESIGN - Keeps the monitor in place, even during push-offs from pool walls.
  • COMPACT and DURABLE - Creates minimal drag through the water. HRM-Swim is the smallest and lightest heart rate monitor from Garmin. Withstands repeated exposure to all swim environments, including pools, salt water and fresh water
  • BATTERY LIFE - Lasts for 18 months (assuming 3 hour/week use) with user-replaceable CR2032 battery
  • Includes - HRM-Swim, manuals
