Check out what these UofT Researchers had to say
“Rule and postdoctoral fellow Daniel Re looked at facial adiposity – the perception of weight in the face – because it is an accurate indicator of a person’s body mass index (BMI), which is calculated as a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of the person’s height in metres (kg/m2).
“It is a robust indicator of one’s health,” said Rule. “Increased facial adiposity is associated with a compromised immune system, poor cardiovascular function, frequent respiratory infections, and mortality. So, even a small decrease can improve one’s health.”
To determine at what point a change in the perception of facial adiposity occurs, Rule and Re digitally created a collection of photos of male and female faces between 20 and 40 years old.
In all photos, subjects had neutral expressions, hair pulled back, and no facial adornments. They altered each image to produce sequences of images spanning a range of weights on a gradually increasing scale.” – Nicholas Rule and Daniel Re
How does weight loss impact your love life?
Then one morning you wake up to start your day or head to work and you grab your favorite blue jeans or your favorite button up top and suddenly it feels tight. You cannot zip up your jeans and you are having a hard time doing up those buttons.
You look in the mirror and see someone you do not recognize looking back at you. You see the change in your face, the little extra weight around your waist and the extra weight all over your body. You are feeling unattractive and down on yourself.
Because of the weight gain and changes in our bodies we begin to lack self confidence. When we do not look how we think we should look, we do not perform to the best of our abilities, we do not feel attractive.
This can lead to depression and insecurities and especially in these times is not a good thing and it is happening more and more.
Weight gain changes the way we see ourselves and it also makes us believe that other people view us differently too. We may not feel as attractive to our sexual partners.
As men maybe you do not feel like you are able to perform the way you want to or as women maybe you don’t feel as sexy and therefore perhaps not wanting to have the lights on or even feel sexual at all.
There are so many ways that weight gain affects us and there are so many ways that weight loss also affects us. Maybe you become more social and feel more confident to seek out a partner or to be intimate with your current partner. You can gain a new relationship or help your current relationship.
Insider.com suggests that weight loss can lead to an increase in sexual desire for women, perhaps men with ED can experience an increase in sexual performance after weight loss and for everyone it could simply be an increase in confidence because of a healthy lifestyle.
“And people who identify as men can also benefit sexually from shedding a few pounds. One study claimed that one-third of obese men with erectile dysfunction were able to cure their performance problem by making lifestyle changes and losing weight.” – Inside.Com
So, you start looking up ways to lose some weight. You are googling how to look sexy or how-to loss weight or will I be attractive again. How much weight do I need to lose to look attractive?
Even with the weight gain, does my partner still think I am beautiful. With weight loss and weight gain will my face change? Will I look younger when I lose the weight?
Will my life change in any way with weight loss? These are all questions that we ask ourselves. But the biggest and greatest thing we need to remind ourselves is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
For self love we need confidence. Confident in how we look, confident in how we feel, confident in how we perceive ourselves and how others perceive us.
Do not give up on your goals!
Ultimately, men and women have the same thoughts in general around weight gain and weight loss. We all want to be the best versions of ourselves and look the best that we can.
Weight loss will give us that confidence that we need to feel more attractive, to ourselves and to others. So yes, weight loss will help us be confident and confidence is sexy and attractive.
For the men that are losing weight:
“A study published in the journal Social Psychological & Personality Science found women can accurately judge your BMI just from the amount of facial fat you’re packing. And the researchers even managed to work out exactly how much overall blubber you have to burn before they’ll see it in your face. Calculators at the ready, gentlemen.
Women will find you more attractive if you lose 2.59 kg/ (your height squared). Confused? This simply means that the average man will have to shred 8.2kg to get those double takes from the hotties around you.” – Menshealth.com
Set yourself up for success!
Do not give up on your goals, set up a daily reminder of what your goals are and stick to them. Some goals you can set for yourself:
- Lose weight
- Exercise (start with 30 mins a day and continuously increase)
