Gary Vaynerchuk Workout, Diet & Lifestyle

Gary Vaynerchuk was born on November 14, 1975, in Babruysk (present-day Belarus). He is a Belarusian American entrepreneur, New York Times bestselling author, speaker and internet personality.

When he was 3 years old his family immigrated to America. His family settled in Queens, New York but later on, they moved to New Jersey.

For his schooling, he went to North Hunterdon High School. And for college, he went to Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts and graduated in 1998.

So, where did Vaynerchuk get started on his entrepreneurial streak? Well, it all began in New Jersey.

He began by selling flowers to his neighbors. However, his business model was not sustainable. He used to pick flowers from his neighbors’ lawns and sell them back to them!

Subsequently, he doubled in trading baseball cards. It is through this venture that he earned thousands of dollars.

To up his business acumen, he joined the family wine business at 14. Later on when he finished college he took over the day-to-day running of his father’s store, Shopper’s Discount Liquors. 

Gary Vaynerchuk workoutThereafter, he rebranded the store and renamed it Wine Library. From henceforth, he focused on e-commerce and pricing strategies to grow the business. He was able to increase its turn over from $3 million to $60 million by 2003.

Down the line, in August 2011, Gary stepped away from the wine business. He went on to build Vayner Media, a digital ad agency, together with his brother.

At some point, Vaynerchuk noticed he was falling back on his health. It became a wake-up call for him. He enrolled the services of a personal trainer, Michael Vacanti, who helped him get back in shape.

Here is the weekly workout routine he used to get back in shape:

Monday
  • Chin Up or Lat Pull Down Reverse Pyramid Training (RPT: start with the heaviest weight and decrease with each successive set): Do 5,6,8 reps x 3 sets
  • Single Arm Bent-Over Row: Do 8-10 reps x 3 sets
  • Dumbbell Straight-Leg Deadlift: 12 reps x 3 sets
  • Dumbbell Rear Delt Fly: 10-12 reps x 3 sets
  • Full Supination Dumbbell Curls: 12-15 reps x 3 sets
Tuesday
  • Weighted Sprinter’s Crunch: 8-10 reps per leg x 3 sets
  •  Pall of Press: 10 reps x 3 sets
  •  Power Breathing: 15-20 reps x 3
Wednesday
  • Walk, Low-Intensity Sustained State (LISS) 45-60 min OR
  •  Recumbent bike High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) 20-25 min
  •  OR 4 games of basketball
Thursday
  • Alternating Dumbbell Curl: 4-6 reps x 4 sets with a 90-sec rest
  •  Weighted Diamond Push-Up: 4-6 reps x 4 sets with a 90-sec rest
  •  Inclined Dumbbell Curl: 10-12 reps x 3 sets
  •  Overhead Dumbbell Triceps Extension: 10-12 reps x 3 sets
  •  Inclined Dumbbell Bench Press: 10-12 reps x 3 sets
Friday

Yoga with long holds; main focus on lower back, hips, and glutes.

Saturday
  • Bulgarian Split Squats RPT: Do 5,6,8 reps x 3 sets
  •  Goblet Squat: 8-10 reps x 3 sets
  •  Dumbbell Straight Leg Dead Lift: 12 reps x 3 sets
  •  Weighted Calf Raise: 15-20 reps x 3 sets
  •  Weighted Cable Crunch: 8-10 reps x 3 sets
  •  Medicine Ball Russian Twist: 15 reps x 3 sets
  •  Bodyweight Bicycles 25 reps x 3 sets
Sunday
  • Flat Dumbbell Bench Press RPT: Do 5,6,8 reps x 3 sets
  •  Single-Arm Dumbbell Floor Press: 12 reps x 3 sets
  •  Overhead Triceps Extension: 10-12 reps x 3 sets
Gary Vaynerchuk Diet

Vaynerchuk does intermittent fasting. This involves eating for a short window period, usually 8. Thereafter, not eating for 16 hours. 

In Vees’ case, he only eats dinner. He says he is focused on other things during the day to think about food. He also has an accountability partner who keeps him on track. 

This has prevented him from making impulsive food decisions. Furthermore, Vaynerchuk does not think it is wise to deprive yourself completely of your favorite food. He allows for cheat days on special occasions.

So, what does Gary eat? He enjoys vegetables, quality meats, wild fish, whole foods, olive oil, and wine. On the contrary, he avoids sugar, artificial ingredients, processed foods, refined foods, hydrogenated fats, and soft drinks.

Money is not everything.

Gary comes from the school of thought that money is not everything? He says “People are chasing cash, not happiness. When you chase money, you’re going to lose. You’re just going to. Even if you get the money, you’re not going to be happy.’’

Play to your strengths.

Vaynerchuk says, “It’s insane to me to ask anybody to be what they’re not. Know what you know the best, love the most. That’s always going to be the answer to the thing that you have the best shot at winning at.’’

Gary says storytelling is yours for the taking. He quips “Storytelling is the game. It’s what we all do. It’s why Nike is Nike, it’s why Apple is Apple, it’s why Walt Disney built Disney World and it’s why Vince McMahon makes a billion dollars.”

As good as your word

One of the important life lessons Gary says he learned from his father is to do what you say you will do. He says ‘Your word is your bond. If you make a promise to somebody you stick to it. I don’t think I would ever be as honorable as a person if my dad didn’t teach me the importance of sticking to your word.’

To have a healthy lifestyle like Gary, stay in tune with your body. When Gary noticed he had gained weight, it became a wake-up call for him.

He took action and hit the gym. He went on to lose 20 lbs. in just 3 months.
